Responsibilities

What You'll Do: Your Impact as a Payroll Tax Specialist

As our Payroll Tax Specialist, you'll be the expert ensuring accurate tax withholding, filing, and payments across numerous states and local jurisdictions. You'll be the go-to person for all things payroll tax, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to maintain absolute compliance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Mastering Multi-State Compliance: Accurately calculate, file, and reconcile payroll taxes at all levels—federal, state, and local.
  • Ensuring Accuracy: Review and verify payroll tax returns, always striving for timeliness and precision.
  • Resolving Complexities: Respond to and expertly resolve payroll tax notices from agencies like the IRS and state departments of revenue.
  • Seamless Payments: Prepare and process payroll tax payments with ease through EFTPS and various state and local portals.
  • Building Foundations: Set up and maintain tax accounts for new and existing jurisdictions, including SIT and SUI registrations.
  • Staying Ahead: Proactively research tax law updates and apply new findings to our payroll processes, ensuring we're always compliant.
  • Year-End Excellence: Prepare accurate and timely year-end tax filings, including W-2s, W-3s, and 1099s.
  • Maintaining Integrity: Periodically audit payroll tax data and reconciliations to ensure compliance and data integrity.
  • Driving Innovation: Partner with our payroll software and ERP teams to implement tax-related system enhancements.
  • Supporting Audits: Assist with external audits, providing necessary documentation and responses to tax authorities.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring: Your Expertise & Qualifications

You're a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with a knack for navigating complex tax regulations. We're looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, high-volume environment and is ready to make a significant contribution.

  • Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated experience in payroll tax, with a proven understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Multi-State Savvy: A strong grasp of multi-state and local payroll tax compliance.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Experience working with third-party payroll and tax vendors (e.g., UKG and/or Dayforce).
  • Analytical Prowess: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with an unwavering attention to detail.
  • Clear Communicator: Strong communication skills, enabling you to clearly explain complex tax issues to various stakeholders.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in using tax agency portals like EFTPS and various state/local government sites.
  • Deadline Driven: Ability to manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
