The Resident Smoke Monitor is responsible for ensuring resident safety and adherence to facility smoking policies within designated smoking areas. This includes monitoring residents during smoke breaks, managing access to smoking areas, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
•Supervise Residents: Monitor residents in designated smoking areas, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and facility policies.
•Manage Access: Guard the entrance to the smoking area, control resident entry and exit, and ensure only approved residents are using the space.
•Safety Protocols: Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times, including proper use of smoking materials and disposal.
•Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the smoking area clean, removing cigarette butts and ashes and reporting any damage or maintenance issues.
•Document and Report: Maintain a daily log of resident smoke breaks, conduct smoking evaluations, document behaviors, and report any incidents or safety concerns to appropriate staff members.
•Assist Residents: Provide assistance to residents in the smoking area as needed.
•Coordination: Coordinate with nursing and activities teams to schedule supervised smoking breaks for dependent residents and ensure supervision is available.
•Other Duties: May be asked to assist with other tasks around the facility as needed, such as answering call lights or assisting with resident menus, depending on the specific needs of the facility.
•Compassionate and Caring: Must have a genuine interest in caring for the elderly and relate positively to residents.
•Attentive and Vigilant: Be attentive and vigilant at all times to ensure resident safety.
•Communication Skills: Ability to explain procedures and communicate effectively with residents and other staff members.
•Physical Stamina: May be required to push and pull residents of all sizes to the smoking area.
•Work Environment: Must be able to tolerate the smell of cigarette smoke.
•Flexible Schedule: May require working irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
In essence, a Smoke Tech in a nursing home acts as a dedicated safety monitor and aide within a regulated smoking environment, ensuring the well-being of residents while respecting their choices within facility guidelines.
